Group training classes have always been a core offering at CrossFit Rochester. The class environment can be very motivating and a significant part of the CrossFit experience. In addition to incredible fitness, many folks have established lifelong friendships with those they worked alongside in the gym. While the head coach can be brutally honest and somewhat rough around the edges, the overall environment is supportive and inclusive.
Group classes are incredibly cost effective and are a great tool for helping push intensity and holding trainees accountable. It's also great for new folks to have the support of others who can relate to what they are going through.
The downside of group training is that sometimes the pressure (whether internal or external) to compete can diminish one's focus on what is most important. It can be difficult to accept when the coach is telling you to dial it back. It doesn't mean you're not part of the group - but rather they are helping you get deeper into the mix ;)
At CrossFit Rochester we have two group class offerings - CrossFit and Transform. While the classes are inclusive of all fitness levels, for the safety of everyone involved expect to go through some level of personal training before be allowed to join classes on a regular basis.
CROSSFIT
Defined as constantly varied functional movements done at high intensity, CrossFit is exactly like it sounds - a cross section of all forms of fitness. We do anything and everything. We run. We lift weights. We do calisthenics. We climb, push, pull and carry (sometimes each other) and we do it all hard and fast. We "do it all" because as humans we have an absolute need to be able to do all of these activities. "Hard and fast" however is relative to an individual's personal capacity ...a capacity that we strive to improve.
TRANSFORM
Created by one of our coaches, Charlene Merritt, Transform is a group class designed for people of all fitness levels looking to make a change. While similar to CrossFit in the way these classes address all areas of fitness, there is less reliance on traditional olympic weightlifting. Through nutritional guidance, and strength and conditioning classes you will be able to transform your body and mind into a healthier and motivated new you.
